The Wide Area Amateur Radio Network (WAARN) is an ARRL-Affiliated club of about 50 Amateur Radio operators in and around the Southern Maine, USA area. The club was formed in October, 2006 and has held monthly meetings since it's inception in Newfield, Wells, Acton and Sanford, Maine.
The club and club members operate four 2 meter repeaters, two (3 soon) 70cm repeaters, and have coordination for several more repeaters on 6, 10 and 1.75 meters. A map showing repeater locations is available by following the "Repeaters" link to the left.
Bob, N1KMA and WAARN have sponsored two licensing classes - one Technician and one General since the summer of 2006. Future plans include an Extra class, and classes in Morse code, even though code is no longer required for licensing.
In January 2007, the Southern Maine Amateur Radio club (SMARC) merged with WAARN, so members of SMARC have now automatically become members of WAARN.
Applications for membership can be found under the Join Us link at the top of the page. The Club bylaws can be found under the Bylaws link to the left of this section.
We are always accepting new members, but please be patient as we are still working to set up club practices such as new member acceptance, meeting procedures, this web site, and other information. We are a club of doers, so that means many of our club members' time is heavily in demand in areas other than Amateur Radio. But rest assured, we are also working hard to have fun with the hobby of Ham Radio!
Club dues are currently $15.00 per person per year. Family memberships are also available, regardless of if all family members are licensed Amateurs or not.
