National Weather Service Spotter/Skywarn Training at May Meeting

Make plans to attend the May meeting!

The National Weather Service will be providing Spotter/Skywarn training the night of our May meeting.

It's likely we will have an abbreviated meeting at the normal time (17:00 hours, May 18), which will be followed by the training.

Members of the public are welcome. You don't have to be a club member or ham to be a NWS spotter, so please pass this message along to family and friends.

More information on the Spotting program is available at http://www.erh.noaa.gov/gyx/spotters_skywarn/index.shtml and http://www.wx1gyx.org/.

Field Day 2008

At the April WAARN Club meeting, one of the major topics of discussion was the upcoming Field Day in June.

In order to get a "head start" on planning for this year's event, we are trying to get an idea of how many club members plan to participate. Once again this year WAARN's Field Day event will be held at the Wells Recreation area.

So, if you are planning to come, (or even if you're not sure yet) please either reply to this message or send an email to "fd08@wa1arn.net" with the following information:

-Your name or login name for the club web site;
-The days and times you are available during the field day period;
-What you would like to do at Field Day. Some of the tasks that need to be accomplished are:

--Set up (Saturday, June 28 early to about midday) - electrical supply, antennas, stations, computer network, camping areas, food prep;
-- Operations (Saturday, June 28 overnight to Sunday, June 29) - Radio Operators (CW capabilities very helpful!), loggers, food prep, supply runner, general "fixer of problems";
-- Break down (Sunday June 29 after about 1600 hours) Breaking down and packing up equipment after the field day event.

Please also list any specialties you have that make you unique! We have many talented people within the club, and want to get the most we can from everybody and make sure everyone has fun.

Many members are planning to camp overnight on-site at the field day location. If you would like to also, it shouldn't be a problem.

More specifics and information will be presented at the May Club meeting. See you then!
